Day 1 Arrival | Santo Domingo | Central Valley
Upon arrival, drive or transfer to your hotel in the Central Valley. Begin your day with an early birding tour. More than 300 species of birds have been spotted in the lodge and surroundings. Then enjoy breakfast and a free day to do activities or the area. Day 4 Sarapiqui | Selva Verde Lodge & Rainforest Reserve | Caribbean Lowlands
Begin your day hiking the trails of the lodge, birding the gardes or admiring the Volcano. After breakfast check out and departs to the Caribbean Lowlands rainforest of Sarapiqui. Home to more than 500 species of birds, Sarapiqui is considered the most accesible rainforest of the world. Check in at Selva Verde Lodge & Rainforest Reserve for a 2 nights stay in La Casona Rainforest Suite, the best location for honeymooners in the area. Grab your binoculars with your lover for an early morning guided bird-walk in the Selva Verde Reserve before breakfast. Return to the hotel for a delicious costa rican breakfast while enjoying the birds in the feeders in front of the restaurant. Have a free time in the morning for cooling off in the pool or hiking the Self guided trails of the lodge. Day 6 La Selva | Cloudforest | Savegre Lodge Nature Reserve & Spa | Highlands
Departs in the morning for an early birding hike in the nearby La Selva Biological Station of the Organization for Tropical Studies, La Selva consists of approximately 2,500 acres of land, over 90% of which is virgin forest. The area averages over 13 feet of rainfall each year, making it a prime spot to observe water birds. Over half of Costa Rica’s 910 recorded bird species have been spotted at La Selva, including the Bare-necked Umbrellabird, Red-capped Manakin, Great Antshrike, Chestnut-backed Antbird, Slaty-tailed Trogon, Striped Cuckoo, Slaty Spinetail and Yellow-tailed Oriole. In the morning enjoy breakfast and a guided birdwatching tour in the Nature Reserve looking for the stars of the area: the Resplendent Quetzals, also regional endemics like the White-throated Mountain Gem, Collared Redstart, Volcano Hummingbird and Black-cheeked Warbler. In the afternoon continue birding the lodge creek and upper trails or relax at the spa that offers additional activities, such as relaxing massages, body wraps, exfoliation and facial treatments, sauna, steam bath and jacuzzi. Day 9 Uvita | Costa Ballena | La Cusinga Rainforest Lodge | Southern Pacific
Enjoy breakfast in the ocean view restaurant and a birwatching tour with local guides by boat in the ocean, looking for brown boobies, frigate birds, pelicans, white ibis, cormorants, great blue herons, and several species of terns, gulls and sandpipers, also dolphins, humpback whales (Dec-March, Jun-Sep) and hawk’s billed turtles in the Ballena Marine National Park. Explore the trails birdwatching in the morning, Check out and drive or transfer back to San Jose, following the Coastal Road, with an optional stop in the Tarcoles bridge to watch the giant crocodiles of the river.
